BEST SCHOOL INTERNET PROJECT (PRIMARY)

Winner - Saint Ambrose Barlow School

Their site contains pages for both children and adults with activities to help pupils with their work both in school and at home. Some of these pages and activities were created and designed by the children themselves. The pages for adults aim to inform parents about the school and where they can also "meet" members of staff. The site has apparently made a big difference to the many children who use it, providing both information and inspiration in many areas of the curriculum.

BEST SCHOOL INTERNET PROJECT (SECONDARY)

Winner - King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys for Pupilvision.com

Pupilvision was created by students with the help of their teacher as an online "factbook" and atlas providing data on 267 countries, regions and territories. The site is housed on the main school server using MySQL and php programming to integrate the database of countries. One of the features includes a form where up to ten countries and five pieces of data can be immediately compared. The judges were very impressed by this site and how much the pupils were involved in its creation.

BEST E-GOVERNMENT PROJECT

Commended - Kikass: South Hams and Teignbridge Drug Implementation Groups for their Stonerlemmings site.

Winner - Essex Grid for Learning

This curriculum website is intended for all who teach and learn in Essex. It was launched in November 2000 in partnership with the National Grid for Learning. It and was developed in partnership with Netmedia Education, the site is now used by almost 600 schools and colleges. It was felt that parents, carers, school governors and, most importantly young people, should have a vibrant interactive website to which they could contribute. A principal aim is for the users to be the writers and not merely the consumers of it.

Commended - Parents Information Network

Winner - Kid Smart

A practical internet safety advice website for schools produced by the children’s charity Childnet. It focuses on five SMART safety tips, which children need to remember when they use the internet or their mobile phones – whether at home or in school. The site offers access to a whole range of resources, from lesson plans to a specially commissioned drama on the theme of internet safety.

ON THE MOVE

Winner - Test Valley Borough Council

Test Valley Borough Council has made creative use of text-messaging to highlight community and leisure activities in the local area. Residents can register their interests by mobile-phone, internet or post and they can then receive free news updates via text message. Working with other local leisure providers, such as theatres, this scheme ensures that its users are the first to hear of developments and special offers.

Winner - Perfiliate Technologies
The website is a fundraising tool that offers schools, charities and clubs the opportunity to earn substantial income through the provision of a free personalised web shop. Every purchase made in the shop earns commission and users can purchase goods and services from a wide range of supporting retailers. The site is free to join and requires no prior technical knowledge.
